How to Find the Hockey Equipment You Need

You don’t want to skimp when buying hockey equipment, as hockey is a sport that exposes you to many dangers. The right equipment can leave your mind free to focus on things other than getting hurt by random pucks, player collisions, and slips or falls. It’s also important that you find skates and sticks that are properly sized for your body and the position you play. Use these tips when buying hockey equipment so that you get the best equipment to meet your needs. By the way, one of my all-time favorite ways to get super fit for the hockey season is with the P90X workout, it’s extremely effective. Check out this P90X reviews website.

Many pieces of hockey equipment are designed to protect your body, for obvious reasons, as you’re skating at high speeds and frequently bumping into other players. Aside from shoulder pads and shin guards, you should also wear elbow pads, which protect your forearms and triceps in addition to your elbows. An injury to your elbow can be very painful not to mention debilitating if you fall on the ice unprotected. It is important to remember this protective gear which you can no doubt find in both soft and hard varieties that are fully adjustable.

It’s very important to consider hockey equipment that protects the legs. There’s much more than bruises to worry about in the event that you skip the shin guards. It’s important that this piece of equipment fits properly and that there are hockey socks going over the guards. You can use hockey tape to keep them secured. Many players are rather attached to the garters that keep their socks in the proper place. Some of the shorts players prefer today have the garters built into them. It is often necessary for players who play on teams to wear specific colors when it comes to hockey socks.

Hockey gloves might not be on the top of your mind when deciding on hockey equipment however they are something all players should have. While goalies need certain gloves for their position, it is important to safeguard your hands despite the position you play. In addition to protecting yourself from direct hits by flying pucks, it’s a wise idea to wear gloves just because hockey is a cold weather sport and you don’t want to get your hands cold and chapped when playing. You want to search for hockey gloves that fit nicely, and which permit you to have a solid clutch on your stick.

It’s important to get the best hockey equipment available – even if you have to shop around. While price is always a factor, you don’t want to skimp when it comes to getting gear that’s durable and able to protect you and bring out your best game. There are some of the things you need to think about as you buy equipment for hockey. The more experience you get with this process the better you will be. Last but not least, if you want to get super fit for hockey season, buy P90X. It is super effective.

Choosing Good Quality Used Hockey Equipment

Article by The Hockey Den

Like all sports, ice hockey comes with a price tag. As a potentially dangerous contact sport, anyone playing ice hockey needs the right protective equipment as well as the skates and sticks that make the game what it is. Not being able to afford top quality ice hockey equipment shouldn’t prevent talented youngsters from playing the game, so it makes sense to have a good source of used gear.

Because safety is important, you want to know that the used ice hockey equipment you’re buying is great quality and in the very best condition. Price matters, of course, but you have to make sure that everything you buy is as safe as possible, so always look for the following things:

Reputable supplier – always buy from an established, reliable ice hockey equipment supplier. That way, you know you’re getting genuine kit and you have somewhere to go back to if you’re not happy with the equipment you buy. When it comes to the safety either of yourself or of the person you’re buying for, you can’t take any chances.

Respected manufacturers – ice hockey equipment is a specialist sports field and only a few manufacturers make the best kit. If you buy a known name, you know that the products are designed and built to the highest standards and have passed all the required safety tests. As used equipment, the seller will have to accurately describe the condition of the kit, so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting – and that’s particularly important when it comes to helmets.

Price – if you’re buying used equipment, you need to keep an eye on the price. Saving money is important, but you don’t want to put price ahead of quality and safety. It’s always a good idea to set a budget and then to find the best possible quality equipment that you can afford.

How to Fit Your Ice Hockey Skates

    Article by Chris Robertson

Your ice hockey skates are the single most important part of your hockey equipment because they’re vital to your comfort and to your ability to move on the ice. While your ice hockey stick is important to your slap-shot and your hockey gloves are vital to your grip on the stick, they’re nothing in comparison to your skates. Ill-fitting hockey skates can make every game a pure misery, and greatly increase your risk of injury. Choosing skates that fit right should be an easy feat, but there are so many myths running around that many hockey players end up with skates that are completely wrong for their feet. Here’s what you need to know to get the best fit for your ice hockey skates.

    1. Select skates that are snug but not painful. Your ice skates shouldn’t fit like a pair of shoes or slippers. You should absolutely be able to feel them on your feet-against your toes, your ankles, your heels and your insteps. If your toes are painfully pinched or you have to jam your feet into the skates, they’re too small, but your feet shouldn’t just slide into them like they do into your favorite pair of slippers.

    2. Ice hockey skates that are a little too small are fixable. If you buy ice hockey skates that are a little too small, your hockey pro shop may be able to help. Hockey shops can stretch skates in a couple of different ways, depending on the fit that’s needed. If the overall size is a perfect fit, for example, but you need to accommodate a slightly thicker ankle, the shop pro can use punch fitting which is a technique that stretches out a small area of the boot. If you need an all-over fit fix, power stretching is an all-over technique that can stretch the boot by as much as a full size. The best option, of course, is to buy ice hockey skates that fit properly in the first place.

    3. The only fix for hockey skates that are too big is growing into them. In other words, unless you’re buying ice skates for a child for next year, avoid buying hockey skates that are too big. The more room your feet have to move around inside the boot of your skate, the more likely it is that you’ll develop blisters or bone spurs on your feet and toes. A second pair of socks or thicker socks doesn’t solve the problem of oversize skates, it just gives another layer of fabric that can shift around inside your skates and cause blisters.

    4. Your toes should touch the front of the boot. If your toes are against the front of the boot when you’re standing on both feet with the skates laced, you have a perfect fit. Make sure that your heel is all the way back in the skate by kicking the heel against the floor once or twice to settle it back.

    5. Check the length of the insole. A second way to check if you’ve got the proper length for your ice hockey skates is to remove the insoles and place them flat on the floor, then stand on them. Your heels should be at the back and your toes should come right to the end of the insole if you’re an adult, or a fingers’ width from the end of the insole if you’re a child who needs room for growth.

The same tips apply to fitting roller hockey inline skates, which require a snug fit to keep your feet from wobbling when you skate. A full service pro hockey shop can help fit your feet for hockey skates, as well as give you advice on other hockey equipment, including goalie equipment and ice hockey sticks.

        Hockey Equipment

        Article by Ultimate Hockey

The key to enjoying hockey at any level is having the right equipment. Quality hockey equipment will not make you Wayne Gretzky, but it will help you play better. Proper-fitting equipment will protect you from injury and make you more comfortable, letting you concentrate on the game.

Hockey equipment comes in different price ranges with factors such as materials, construction, and usage determining the cost. For example, goalie skates differ from regular skates, as they feature a wider blade and have a lower boot to protect the ankles and feet. Here is the basic equipment you’ll need:

        *

Skates– Select skates with hard plastic boots, as they offer better protection against pucks and provide more support for your ankles. The greater the portion of the blade that contacts the ice (the radius) the easier it will be for you to move forward with stability. In general, if you are new to hockey, select a skate with about 5 inches of radius. *

Helmet– Purchase a quality helmet with a clear facemask to protect your face, teeth, and eyes from injury. Quality helmets have designations from appropriate safety testing organizations. For example, in Canada, hockey helmets must meet the testing standards of the Canadian Safety Association (CSA). *

Body protection– Shin, knee, elbow, and shoulder pads all will save you when you take a tumble. If you are afraid you’ll look like the Michelin Man in your hockey gear just remember there’s nothing cool about being injured. And guys remember to wear an athletic support and a cup to protect, ah . . . your privates. *

Hockey stick– This is a whole topic in itself. The three key characteristics in selecting a hockey stick are the shaft material, the blade curve, and the angle between the blade and shaft when the blade lies on the ice as you hold the stick in a forehand shot. Ask the experts what they suggest for your level of skill and playing style. A high-tech composite stick will be lighter than a wooden stick, but also more expensive.

If you are thinking hockey equipment sounds specialized, you’re right. If you think you will have to spend a small fortune to get outfitted–think again. Reputable Internet retailers have everything you need at prices that will fit your budget. They can give you expert advice, help you get your gear, and save you money in the bargain. Not bad!Finding team mates and places to play

No matter what your playing ability you can start having fun! If you live in more rural area, chances are hockey buffs use a local pond or lake in the winter. Drop by and talk to the folks playing.

If you live in the city, most cities have indoor arenas where you can play hockey throughout the year. Contact your local arena or recreation center and ask about practice times and the various leagues available. You will find a whole range of groups playing at various levels from children to old timers.

You can also organize a team yourself, with friends, family, or co-workers, and then call your local arena to book ice time. Leave out the rougher parts of the game (no checking, no slapshots), and you’ll all have a great time while you get some exercise.

So lace up your skates and we’ll see you on the ice.
